Surprisingly functional novelty

Advertised as "indestructible headphones" by Mr. Obvious and made of actual fired brass casings, so I bought 2 pair on a whim for birthday presents for me & brother. It's well worth the extra $10 for inline mic & not-shiny Patina Bronze finish, which doesn't look much like how brass naturally corrodes in the wild but is nonetheless beautiful as well as less-reflective camouflage for your boogaloo-listening pleasure. Sound quality's surprisingly good: No one's expecting audiophile for the price, and low impedance leads predictably to distortion when they're pushed too hard, but they're plenty loud & clear at sane volume levels. Would like to see Double Tap publish graphs of frequency-response curve, SPL, impedance, transient response, THD etc. even buried under some tab like "Specs For Audio Geeks" if that wouldn't hurt sales. Paracord-armored cable doesn't kink or knot and stores easily; on the other hand, the sound of the cord texture dragging on clothing or table edges transmits acoustically into your ears all too well. The "Y" where right and left cords split is armored with a .22LR casing whose rim snags on things--not enough to yank out of your ears, but with its own acoustic noise transmission. With enough time and motion I might worry about the sharp casemouth edge abrading the nylon, though that's pretty much the only potential failure point. The .32 ACP minijack housing is a bit over-bulky but rock-solid right where indestructibility is needed most. Three sizes of silicone earcups are included, at least one of which ought to fit most ear canals without being too uncomfortable or falling out or wobbling around too much. I would've liked more tip options as far as sizes and materials, e.g. foam-rubber, but it seems many aftermarket tips will also fit on the drivers. Overall, I've already got better-sounding and more comfortable headphones in this price range that don't look nearly as cool and aren't nearly as concealable. I highly recommend Double Taps for fashionable everyday carry.
